D&I Media Course Description:
Through the study of digital and interactive media and its application in information technology, students will analyze and assess current and emerging technologies, while designing and creating multimedia projects that address customer needs and resolve a problem. Students implement personal and interpersonal skills to prepare for a rapidly evolving workplace environment. The knowledge and skills acquired and practiced will enable students to successfully perform and interact in a technology-driven society. Students enhance reading, writing, computing, communication, and reasoning skills and apply them to the information technology environment.
Grading:
Each grading period is 9 weeks (progress reports are submitted every 3 weeks) Students will be graded based on the following:
- 40% Knowledge and Thinking
- 15% Agency
- 15% Oral Communication
- 15% Written Communication
- 15% Collaboration
Students have electronic access to their grades and attendance, therefore any discrepancies must be addressed with the teacher immediately.
Student Communication with Facilitator:
All EPISD students have access to an Office 365 account and email service. All email communication between facilitator and student should be via the student's EPISD email account.
Supplies:
Students are encouraged to have the following supplies for this class:
1) Earbuds with microphone (students will be recording their voices for podcasts, video tutorial, voice overs and presentations)
2) 1 flash drive (students have access to OneDrive for file storage but from time to time files may be too large or the internet might be down)
3) From time to time, teacher might request additional materials for special projects
Attendance:
Students must initial the Attendance Log daily, otherwise they might be counted absent.
Disciplinary action will be taken against any student that falsifies the attendance log.
Academic Dishonesty:
Cheating, plagiarism, unauthorized collaboration, and other forms of academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. Students are expected to complete their own work, submit original work and site their sources. If academic dishonesty occurs, ALL parties involved will be denied credit for the assignment or test resulting in a ZERO. Additionally, further disciplinary action may be taken as needed.
Class Work/Homework Policy:
It is the student’s responsibility to keep track of assignments; all assignments will be posted on Echo. Students will be expected to work diligently on any given assignment and will be given time in class to complete their work; however, if a student feels like they will not be able to complete an assignment in class they will need to complete it during after school tutoring hours or for homework.
If homework is assigned or unfinished work was taken home it is the student’s responsibility to turn it in ON TIME.
Late Work:
At teacher's discretion, late work may be accepted for a maximum grade of 70 (only within the same grading period)
Absences;
Regular attendance is vital for student success in this course. Any day that a student is absent or out of class will set them and their teams behind. If a student is absent or out of class for any reason, it is the student’s responsibility to check Echo for any missed work. Very often the information started on one day will be continued during the next day; therefore, if a student missed the first part and they are not able to understand, it is their responsibility to seek assistance with the teacher AFTER-SCHOOL during tutoring. Students that are absent will have an equal amount of days missed to make up work, i.e. 1 day absent = 1 day to turn in missed work.
Parents or Legal Guardians are encouraged to notify the attendance office each day the student is absent. Students not excused from school by parent/guardian may receive an unexcused absence.
Approved Activity Absences:
Excused student activities are scheduled in advance, therefore it will be the student’s responsibility to turn in assignments and make up work. A student should inform the teacher before the absence to make any necessary arrangements.
Tardies:
A student will be considered tardy if they are not in their assigned classroom SEAT when the bell rings.
Should a student be tardy they should:
- Enter quietly
- Sign the tardy log (notate the time of arrival)
- Excused Tardies: place excused slip on my desk and sign the tardy list
It is school policy that students who are tardy (unexcused) to class more than 2 times (per semester), will be assigned after school detention from 4-4:30pm (for tardies #3 and on).
After 3 detentions (or 6 tardies) in a semester, a grade of U will be recorded in Student's Conduct and a Discipline Referral will be generated for excessive tardiness.
If a student is tardy for detention, they will serve an extra day of detention.
If a student fails to serve detention, a discipline referral will be generated.
Bio-Breaks and Hall Pass:
It’s a privilege, not a guarantee. Students must request permission before leaving the room. Students granted permission to leave the room must return to class within 4 minutes. Students working outside of classroom on hall pass must abide by all class rules and be on their best behavior; you are representing Panther New Tech and need to act accordingly.
Students will not be allowed breaks within the first or last 10 minutes of class. Use your transition periods wisely.
Any student that walks out of class without permission will be referred to the Assistant Principal's office.
Failing Students:
Students have electronic access to their grades and after-school opportunities for tutoring therefore, any failing student should seek the teacher's assistance. Ultimately, it is the student's responsibility to ensure a passing grade by completing all work and submitting assignments on time.
****The teacher reserves the right to alter the syllabus in order to meet the needs of the students in the class.****
